Prison Guide, John Parker, take us into the Day Five Scriptures about love, discernment, growth, and fruitfulness.
As soon as we sign-on with Jesus his growth and maintenance program is activated. It looks different with every believer. Sometimes our spiritual growth seems slow and other times it happens by leaps and bounds! Love, knowledge, and discernment grow and we begin to make better choices! Best of all our lives become fruitful—God’s way—both now and forevermore!
Today’s passage: “And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9–11, ESV)

This prayer is an AMAZING model of how to pray for fellow believers. All of us are lacking in love, knowledge, discernment, purity, blamelessness, and the fruit of righteousness. This prayer is worth memorizing. Not so you can pray it as a rosary, fingering down a string of beads. This is a prayer of “affection” for brothers and sisters. I’m pretty sure that if we pray this more for others, these things will also grow in our own life, “more and more”.
Thank you, Tim! Yes! I agree!
“This prayer is an AMAZING model of how to pray for fellow believers.”
And,
” All of us are lacking in love, knowledge, discernment, purity, blamelessness, and the fruit of righteousness.”
Here are some good Holy Spirit verses to help us:
Romans 8:26–27 (GW) 26 At the same time the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we don’t know how to pray for what we need. But the Spirit intercedes along with our groans that cannot be expressed in words. 27 The one who searches our hearts knows what the Spirit has in mind. The Spirit intercedes for God’s people the way God wants him to.
Galatians 5:22–23 (GW = God’s Word Translation) 22 But the spiritual nature produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There are no laws against things like that.
James 3:17–18 (GW) 17 However, the wisdom that comes from above is first of all pure. Then it is peaceful, gentle, obedient, filled with mercy and good deeds, impartial, and sincere. 18 A harvest that has God’s approval comes from the peace planted by peacemakers.
